GILB, CIP and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) are organizing a Third International Conference on Late Blight to be held in Beijing between the 3rd and 6th of April 2008. This conference builds on the earlier ones in Hamburg (Germany) in 2002 and Quito (Ecuador) in 1999.

Late blight continues to be one of the most destructive diseases of potato, tomato and other Solanum crops. By bringing together the leading researchers in the field, the Third International Late Blight Conference will present a major opportunity to review the latest developments in epidemiology, disease management, pathogen biology and dynamics, resistance breeding, molecular biology of host-pathogen interactions and chemical control.

The last five years have seen major strides in many areas of research on late blight and the causal agent, P. infestans, which will be reviewed by leading scientists, who will also propose a future agenda for cutting edge innovation.  An objective of the conference is to provide opportunities for developing international collaboration.  Attendees will have an opportunity to participate formally either via presented papers or posters.

The organizing committe is making progress in organizing a two-day pre-meeting workshop and post-meeting field trip to a potato producing area in southwest China, but they need information on number of people that are interested in participating.  This can be indicated when you pre-register (see Registration page ).

There is alos new information on the Abstracts and Proceedings page on how to format abstracts and a deadline for submission has been set for 1 March 2008.
